Hello Loyal Farmers Market Customer,

It has been wonderful seeing so many friendly faces at market so early in the season!  Thank you for making the effort to come to market….especially in the August-like heat that we have been experiencing lately!
We will soon be saying so-long to our May crops; Asparagus pickings are slimming down, as are Rhubarb, and Strawberries.  But we hope you are all looking forward to our early Summer crops.  This week we had our first picking of leeks and butterhead lettuce.  We also picked fresh ‘French Breakfast’ Radishes.  In the next few weeks you can enjoy Red Raspberries, Gooseberries, Beets and Pie Cherries.
While we have lots of fruit related recipes on our website, we will be working to increase the quantity and diversity of recipes at KuhnOrchards.com. In the meantime, we recommend using websites like allrecipes.com or epicurious.com which even let you search by season.  Or, consult one of your favorite cookbooks for recipe ideas.
Everyone has been asking at market, “When will your peaches be coming in??”  We expect to be picking peaches by early July.  While it may not be quite the same as our tree-ripened peaches, try our ‘Summer Breeze’ peaches canned in a light syrup.  They are great on ice cream or lightly grilled, and they will definitely tempt your palate!
We hope to see you at market!!

Sincerely,
David, Mary Margaret, and Sidney Kuhn

June at the Market

  • Apple Cider– Our cider is pressed at a local mill (Kime’s) from a mixture of our own apples! There are no preservatives or sweeteners added, just pure apple juice.
  • Strawberries– Just picked and red all the way through!  But hurry and get your fresh juicy strawberries before they are all gone!
  • Asparagus– This will be our last weekend with Asparagus at market, so be sure to grab your tender “tips”!
  • Rhubarb– Rhubarb season will soon come to an end, so be sure to pick some up and make your last Strawberry-Rhubarb something of the season!  Click here for some Rhubarb recipe ideas.
  • Radishes– Try our ‘French Breakfast’ variety – they are delish!
  • Leeks– Leeks are probably most well-known in Leek and Potato Soup; but try mixing leeks in cream cheese, vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper, and bacon bits for a yummy cracker or veggie dip.
  • Garlic Scapes– are the edible flower stalk of our garlic plants.  Use them like you would chives or scallions, and give your dish a delicate garlic flavor.
  • Herbs:  Oregano, Catnip, Tarragon, Mint, Lavender, Thyme, Sage, Dill, and Parsley– after you start cooking with our fresh herbs, you’ll never look back
  • Fuji, Pink Lady, and Goldrush Apples –Crisp and Juicy from our CA Storage.
  • Canned Peaches– Our own ‘Summer Breeze’ peaches canned in light syrup.
  • Jams & Jellies –Processed by a family friend from our own frozen fruit.
  • Dried Fuji Apples –New this year!
  • Farmer Bouquets and Individual Flower Stems – Our flowers make great host or hostess gifts so be sure to pick some up before you head to your social gathering.
