Diane says Dandee Reds are a great snacking apple. They are a perfect size – not too small and not too big, and they have a tart sweet flavor.
Dandee Red apples are a ‘sport’ of New England’s MacIntosh. Most MacIntosh sports do not grow well in more southern states because it is just too hot; but we have been quite successful with the Dandee Red. They get a vibrant red color, the tartness is there, and the texture is crisp. We’re on the last of our Dandee Red this week, so be sure to pick some up at market!
Diane also has a confession to make….she ate a lot of Blackberries while sorting them this morning. She has a bit of a tummy ache.
